Canvas by Instructure serves as the unified Learning Management System (LMS) integrated with Turnitin, Panopto, and other tools at CityUHK.

All Users
  1. Visit CityUHK Homepage
  2. Click "QUICK LINK" and then "Canvas"
  3. Log in by using CityUHK EID and password
  4. Click the "Courses" icon from the left menu
  5. Click the course title on the tray menu
    (or "All Courses" if it is not listed)

Google Classroom
  1. Available Functions:
    • Note Sharing
    • Announcements
    • Assignments and Quizzes
    • Grading
    • Google Meet
  2. No further features and integrations (i.e. Turnitin) are available
  3. Teachers need to create classes in Google Classroom and invite only students with CityUHK Google Workspace ✽ accounts to join their classes

Plagiarism Prevention

Our Solution

Turnitin scans assignments and generates reports on originality to alert teachers and students on potential plagiarism issues.

Teachers
  • Create assignments with plagiarism checking in Canvas
  • View similarity and AI writing detection reports of student submissions
  • Provide feedback to students using GradeMark

Students
  • Upload document files to Turnitin via Canvas assignments
  • View similarity reports of submissions (if teachers allow)

Teachers should create Turnitin assignments with the below options in Canvas courses.
Students can check for plagiarism in their document files via Turnitin assignments (created by teachers) only in Canvas courses.

  1. Available for teachers and research students
  2. Checking for plagiarism in research papers only ✽, NOT for assignment submissions
  3. Online request for CityUHK staff only via Research Grants & Contracts Office (RO) website.

Grammarly Editor

  3. Less accurate than Turnitin due to weak paper database

Video Recording

Our Solution

Teachers can use Panopto to record lectures with presentations and enable the related options for students to submit video assignments.

Teachers
  • Produce and deliver instructional videos with presentations in Canvas courses
  • Create video assignments with Panopto "Assignment Folder", allowing students to upload their media submissions

Students
  • Record or upload videos using Panopto and submit them for video assignments in Canvas courses

uReply provides teachers with a platform for in-class assessments, i.e. live polling and attendance tracking.

uReply service will be terminated after June 2025.

  • Manage preset question banks and launch interactive sessions such as live polling in classrooms

Writing Assistant

Our Solution

Grammarly for Education provides comprehensive, AI-powered writing assistance that enhances learning throughout the entire writing process.

All CityUHK Grammarly Users
  • View the real-time highlights of spelling and grammatical mistakes while typing text
  • Improve the writing after viewing suggestions provided by Grammarly Responsible AI and Generative AI assistance
  • Receive weekly progress reports including analysis of writing via emails

All CityUHK Grammarly Users
  1. Log in to CityUHK My Apps Dashboard
  2. Click on the Grammarly icon, then land on the Grammarly home page

If no Grammarly icon is shown on the My Apps page, please register for the CityUHK Grammarly account via the Service Portal. ✽

  1. All CityUHK students and staff can use them by following the instructions

  3. Due to limits in the conversation flow format,
    • No real-time grammar check
    • No interface for reviewing grammar suggestions
