Tips for Examinations - avoid students from accessing course materials

To prevent students from accessing course materials in Canvas courses during the examinations, you may

  • hide your course materials in your Canvas course before the examination
  • release your course materials after the examination

Please follow one of the below methods.

Method 1: Restrict student access to the Canvas course
(note: It must not be used for examinations with Canvas Quizzes/Assignments.)
or
Method 2: Hide the items from the course navigation menu



Method 1:
Restrict student access to the Canvas course

before examination

  1. In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.
  2. Under the "Course Details" tab, select the Participation: Course.
  3. On the End field,
    • specify a date on the date picker
      (i.e. examination day)
    • change the time
      (i.e. start time, 9:00am or 2:00pm)
  4. Enable the Restrict students from viewing course after term end date option.
  5. Remember to click the Update Course Details button at the bottom.

  1. In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.
  2. Under the "Course Details" tab, select the Participation: Term.
  3. Disable the Restrict students from viewing course after term end date option.
  4. Remember to click the Update Course Details button at the bottom.

Method 2:
Hide the items from the course navigation menu

before examination

  1. In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.
  2. Click the Navigation tab.
  3. Locate the item (i.e. Files / Modules / Pages), click the Options (3-dot) icon, then select the Disable option.
  4. Remember to click the Save button at the bottom.

after examination

  1. In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.
  2. Click the Navigation tab.
  3. Locate the item, click the Options (3-dot) icon, then select the Enable option.
  4. Remember to click the Save button at the bottom.
