To prevent students from accessing course materials in Canvas courses during the examinations, you may
- hide your course materials in your Canvas course before the examination
- release your course materials after the examination
Please follow one of the below methods.
Method 1: Restrict student access to the Canvas course
(note: It must not be used for examinations with Canvas Quizzes/Assignments.)
or
Method 2: Hide the items from the course navigation menu
Method 1:
Restrict student access to the Canvas course
before examination
- In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.
- Under the "Course Details" tab, select the Participation: Course.
- On the End field,
- specify a date on the date picker
(i.e. examination day)
- change the time
(i.e. start time, 9:00am or 2:00pm)
- Enable the Restrict students from viewing course after term end date option.
- Remember to click the Update Course Details button at the bottom.

- In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.
- Under the "Course Details" tab, select the Participation: Term.
- Disable the Restrict students from viewing course after term end date option.
- Remember to click the Update Course Details button at the bottom.
Method 2:
Hide the items from the course navigation menu
before examination
- In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.
- Click the Navigation tab.
- Locate the item (i.e. Files / Modules / Pages), click the Options (3-dot) icon, then select the Disable option.
- Remember to click the Save button at the bottom.
after examination
- In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.
- Click the Navigation tab.
- Locate the item, click the Options (3-dot) icon, then select the Enable option.
- Remember to click the Save button at the bottom.
