“The atmosphere at CityUHK was more empathetic than other environments I had experienced.”

Raymond Lau describes life at CityUHK as colorful and encourages freshmen to take the initiative to meet new friends.
Raymond Lau has wholeheartedly embraced the role of a senior and shared his experiences during the 2023 Orientation Day for SEN students.

At the tender age of six months, Raymond Lau Pak-hei was diagnosed with dystonic cerebral palsy. Now, at the age of 22, he is a final-year student. Despite the need to use a wheelchair, Raymond has taken a journey at the University that has been nothing short of vibrant and colourful. Initially shy, he quickly discovered the atmosphere at CityUHK was more empathetic than other environments he had experienced. By engaging in group projects, he has formed lasting bonds with incredible friends who not only study together but also share meals, hit the gym, and even cook while cheering for their favourite football teams in the dormitory.

Motivated by a deep desire to encourage freshmen with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to break through their own limitations, explore their personal interests and pursue their dreams, Raymond joined the 2023 Orientation Day for SEN students. He shared his personal experiences and encouraged freshmen to leverage the resources and ample support provided by the SEN Support Service Team and Inclusion Ambassadors. He urged them to participate in the vibrant campus activities, and make the most of the inclusive facilities.

Raymond’s unwavering spirit and compassionate nature are like a guiding light, illuminating the path for others to explore their passions and embrace challenges in life.
