Ida Chan Tsoi-yi
Bachelor of Social Sciences in Social Work
Lead actress, CityUHK musical 2022
“I enjoy interactive learning through social work, music and drama.”
A social community activity during Ida Chan Tsoi-yi’s teenage years boosted her confidence and shaped her future career in social work, giving her the meaningful goal to encourage positive change in others.
Ida has learned to promote human and community well-being through inspirational learning experiences during her social work courses at CityUHK. For example, she created a joyful Mother’s Day event for residents at a Care and Attention Home for the Aged Blind during a practicum. Witnessing a senior citizen with dementia play the organ at the residential care home let her see that elders are not weak and everyone possesses different strengths. This life-altering experience has encouraged her to acquire greater compassion in caring and strengthened her organisational skills.
Beyond the classroom, Ida honed her artistic talents as the lead actress in the musical Fiddler on the Roof during the CityUHK Arts Festival 2022. Taking on the principal role demanded confidence, resilience, effective communication and problem-solving skills. By embracing these challenges, Ida better understands herself and has cultivated a more vital self-belief and a more positive mindset for overcoming obstacles.
Ida aspires to empower those in need, improve lives and sustainably impact society.
