Ba Shanzheng was an intern in Morgan Stanley’s New York office.

Ba Shanzheng, was a student on the Joint Bachelor's Degree programme between CityUHK and Columbia University, and majored in Computational Finance. During his time at CityUHK, Shanzheng seized valuable opportunities to accelerate his career. He participated in an internship programme in Singapore where he honed his data processing skills and programming abilities while working at a quant private equity firm called Ecquitas. Additionally, he joined the Culture and Language Immersion Scheme in New Zealand, improving his English language proficiency and fostering deep connections with his host family.

Shanzheng's experience at CityUHK proved to be instrumental in distinguishing himself when he had to compete with students from the US for an internship at Morgan Stanley. Unlike with previous work experiences in Asia, Morgan Stanley invested in their interns, allowing Shanzheng to immerse himself in the business, expand his product knowledge, and build a strong network within the firm.

During his internship, Shanzheng rotated through different departments at Morgan Stanley. In the Foreign Exchange department, he shadowed traders, attended meetings, and learned about different trading strategies. In subsequent rotations, he gained exposure to aspects of the business, further enhancing his understanding.

He was then given a return offer to join the company’s Fixed Income Division, Foreign Exchange Trading and Structuring Team as a full-time analyst on his graduation.
