Sports & Wellness

CityU always cares about the wellness of students, staff and alumni. To encourage the CityU Community to develop healthy habits, “Sports for All” and “Wellness for All” campaigns are organised for all-round holistic and diverse recreational and sports activities available on and off campus throughout the year. CityU has further elevated the collaboration with the on-campus medical clinic to incorporate professional recommendations of physical activity plans into medical consultations , which can help prevent diseases and improve fitness.

CityU is “One of the Best Universities in Sports” in Hong Kong, which has clenched the Grand Slam for 9 times in the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China (USFHK) Sports Competitions. Exercise is Medicine® On Campus

Exercise is Medicine® On Campus (EIM-OC) is a US-based recognition launched by the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Medical Association, that promotes wellness enhancement through physical activities at universities and colleges. Led by Professor Horace Ip, Vice President (Student Affairs), CityU EIM-OC Task Force was launched in 2016, to coordinate the efforts towards the Gold level designation. The task force encourages on-going endeavours such as health talks, physical fitness courses and activities, as well as health and fitness assessments.

With the collaborative efforts from CityU staff, students and alumni, CityU has won Silver Campus Awards in 2017 and 2019 and a Gold Campus Award in 2020. The award highlights how CityU fosters physical activity as a vital sign of health and encourages the campus community to work together to improve health and well-being. This aspiration matches the advocacy of the “One Health” concept at CityU.

Sports for All

“Sports for All” is a year-round programme with the aims to promote physical exercise, cultivate exercise habits, as well as to develop individual sports potential among the CityU Community. Different levels of workshops for various sports, including dragon boat, fitness and wellness, karate and rackets sports, are organised to cater to the needs of participants.

Wellness for All

To foster the culture of wellness on campus, CityU has scaled up “Wellness for All” as a year-round campaign to enhance physical wellness and develop healthy lifestyle among the CityU Community, through a series of diversified sports competitions, physical activities, workshops and health talks. CityU also encourages the CityU Community to join the large-scale sports events, such as the establishment of the Delegation to participate in different levels of the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon every year.
