Facing the global economy impacted by Covid-19, CityU has unveiled CAReer Launch Scheme (CARLS) in June 2020, an innovative win-win initiative designed to maximise employment opportunities of Class of 2020 graduates by providing job matching fund and platform for job-seeking graduates and employers. With the strong connections with industry partners, employers, alumni and trade associations, CARLS has solicited numerous job opportunities from different industry sectors. Our career consultants have provided job matching service for employers for their talent search and conducted one-on-one online career consultations with Class of 2020 graduates to provide personalised career coaching. Many graduates have landed their career successfully with the staunch support from the University.

CityU organises Careers Festival as early as in September every year to help our students prepare well for their future careers. The Festival features a Job Expo, a series of career preparation workshops and recruitment talks, CV clinics and CV photo-taking service. It attracts the participation of over a hundred multinational corporations, large institutions and government departments, providing CityU students with hundreds of graduate and internship positions in banking, accounting, research and development, public relations, information technology and other industries. Some participating companies even offer on-site interviews with students and make direct job offers. Students from various departments join the one-week event actively to get first-hand job market information and employment opportunities from their potential employers every year. In 2020, the traditional Careers Festival was transformed to a brand new online CityU E-Career Success Fair 2020, with record-breaking attendance.
To enhance students’ global perspectives, intercultural awareness and overall employability, CityU has organised Global Work Attachment Programme (GWAP) every year since 2015, sending students to international cities including Berlin, Munich, Shanghai, Sydney and Taipei in summer for 8 to 12 weeks of placements. Over 200 internship partners were engaged and about 400 students completed the overseas internships. In 2020, GWAP was transformed online for the first time, providing students with the first-hand experience in the virtual working environment.
CityU hosts Employers’ Luncheon every year to strengthen connections with global and local businesses, raise awareness among employers about CityU’s educational philosophy and showcase exceptional student inventions and achievements to prospective employers. The Luncheon mainly features a student project exhibition and a keynote speech, with the attendance of senior management representatives from a wide spectrum of industries and sectors such as Citibank, Ernst & Young, Microsoft Hong Kong Limited and MTR, as well as CityU senior management, staff and students.
