Animal Work Safety
Safety is paramount when planning to use animals as research models. Ensuring the well-being of both the animals and the research personnel is essential for ethical and effective scientific inquiry. Comprehensive training in animal handling and care is crucial to prevent injuries and minimize stress for the animals. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, lab coats, and face masks must be worn to safeguard against zoonotic diseases and allergens. Proper housing, sanitation, and environmental controls are necessary to maintain the health and comfort of the animals. Adherence to ethical guidelines and regulatory standards, including obtaining approval from the Animal Ethics Committee (AEC), is mandatory. Additionally, researchers must apply for the appropriate licenses as required by Hong Kong regulations. By prioritizing safety, researchers can uphold the highest standards of animal welfare and scientific integrity.
