Campus Development & Facilities Management
The University strives to create a low carbon and sustainable campus that helps in mitigating the impact of climate change. To achieve this goal, Campus Development Office (CDO) and Facilities Management Office (FMO) have exerted considerable efforts through a basic framework of sustainability which covers the following:
-
Energy Efficiency - with a long term ambitious goal of achieving net zero carbon emission on campus, CDO aims to attain better energy performance through energy conservation, recovery and the use of renewable energy.
-
Waste Management – FMO will continue to achieve the goal of sending less and less solid wastes from the campus to government landfills. The practice of responsibly managing various solid wastes such as construction wastes, laboratory wastes, clinical wastes and hazardous wastes will continue with greater efforts in reducing organic wastes such as food waste and kitchen scraps.
-
Occupational Health, Safety and Security – FMO will continue its works to maintain a safe, pleasant and peaceful campus with good indoor air quality through safety audits, security surveillance and maintenance.
-
Campus Greening – the approach FMO adopting is to enlarge the green vegetation coverage of the campus to the extent practically possible so as to provide biodiversity, to offset carbon emissions and create 'oasis effect' to the environment.
-
New Buildings and Renovations – as a baseline, CDO will ensure all new buildings shall be HK BEAM Gold (or equivalent) certified and seek to reuse and recycle demolition wastes as far as possible in all its renovation and AA&I works.
-
Reporting (For CityU Students and Staff only) – CDO and FMO will continue the good practice of publication of the University's environmental performance on an annual basis.
