Hong Kong Sustainable Campus Consortium (HKSCC)
The Hong Kong Sustainable Campus Consortium (HKSCC) is a platform for the higher education institutions in Hong Kong to share information and best practices on sustainability related issues. Members include both academic and non-academic colleagues from the eight publicly-funded universities.
CityU is honoured to take up the convenorship of the HKSCC again and chair the executive committee in 2023. Since its establishment in 2010, the HKSCC has engaged and influenced tens of thousands of students in the tertiary education sector to advance sustainable development.
Our Approach to Sustainability
Sustainability is the long-term maintenance of well-being for human civilisation and the rest of the biosphere. It’s about taking what we need to live now, without jeopardising the potential for people to meet their future needs.
Universities have a unique role and special responsibility to:
1. model good sustainability practices by operating their campuses with minimal resource consumption and waste;
2. educate all members of the campus community on the nature of environmental, social and economic sustainability challenges; and
3. work with the government, private sector, NGOs and other community stakeholders on solutions for sustainability challenges.
We are committed in this unique drive to:
- integrate sustainability into University education;
- explore sustainability challenges through research; and
- minimize waste and promote resource conservation in all our operations
