"Octopus" is a smart card payment system commonly used by people in Hong Kong for travelling, shopping and dining without the hassle of coins. The octopus card is a highly convenient type of ticket with stored value on the card. It is available at customer service centres of MTR stations for a HK$50 deposit. Card value can be increased through "Add Value" machines at any MTR station or convenience store such as 7-Eleven and Circle K.
