Chairperson’s Message
主席的話
Let me begin by extending my heartfelt gratitude to the generous gifts of all of you – our staff, students,
alumni and friends and supporters. Every donation from you will have a transformational impact on
boosting research, education and innovation at CityU. Thanks to your generous gifts, we have achieved
many impressive accomplishments in 2016 -17.
Strengthening internationalisation and global partnership is one of the themes in the University’s 2015-2020
Strategic Plan. We aim to help our students become positive and informed global citizens by arranging
overseas exchanges and internship programmes and extending and deepening our national and international
partnerships, focusing on cross-institution and cross-continent research. With donations, we have enhanced
international experience and global knowledge of our students. For example, we have launched the Global
Work Attachment Programme which enables students to join mainland and overseas internship projects.
In addition, top students are offered opportunities to enroll on joint bachelor degree programmes developed
in collaboration with overseas universities.
At CityU, we acknowledge the importance of “One Health”, which aims to achieve optimal health for
people, animal and the environment. With strong community support and donations, the development
of One Health education and research at CityU has made great stride over the past year. The first cohort
of students of the pioneering Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme has embarked on their exciting
journey of learning at CityU. They will be trained as professionals in veterinary medicine based on the
integrated perspective of the “One Health” approach.
The advancement of One Health further benefits from the mega donations from the Hong Kong Jockey Club
Charities Trust (the Trust) and the BOCHK Charitable Foundation. Thanks to the Trust’s donations to support
the building of the One Health Tower, CityU will bring together valuable resources and international expertise

that will contribute both to the prevention of infectious disease as well as the sustainable development of
Hong Kong and the region. In addition to supporting student development, the gift from the BOCHK
Charitable Foundation will promote the advancement of veterinary medical research and education and
the promotion of public health and food safety in Hong Kong and the region.
Once again, I would like to thank our donors and friends for your invaluable support and endorsement for
our missions and efforts. We look forward to your continued support in our journey to making a difference
in people’s lives.
