Celebrating the 30th anniversary of CityUHK, the College of Science (CSCI) proudly presented exciting programmes for science alumni and their family members in the Alumni Homecoming 2024 event organised by the Alumni Relations Office on 2 November 2024.

A group of 75 enthusiastic students and faculty members from the College of Science and College of Engineering embarked on an educational excursion to BIEL Crystal in Huizhou on 25 October 2024. This visit aimed to provide students with first-hand insight into the advanced technologies and manufacturing processes involved in the production of high-quality glass components widely used in smart digital and wearable devices, AR/VR glasses and automotive industry.

Over 190 teams of secondary school students participated in the College of Science’s CityUHK Science Video Competition 2024 by submitting videos that explain scientific principles or phenomena. Under intense competition, the judging panel selected 2 Gold Awards, 3 Silver Awards, and 4 Bronze Awards.

Nearly 40 secondary school teachers and students joined the CityUHK Science Patent Challenge 2024-25 intellectual property workshop on 19 October 2024, co-organised by the Office of the Provost and Deputy President and the College of Science (CSCI).

With financial support from CityUHK, Issac Ho, a third-year student from CSCI’s flagship GREAT programme (Physics stream), finished a fruitful 6-month research internship at the University of Cambridge in August 2024. His research is about condensed matter physics, which requires delicate equipment and precise measurement skills.

CityUHK’s UG Information Day was held successfully on Oct 5; over 2000 HKDSE takers, their parents, and teachers visited the College of Science’s (CSCI) booth for the latest admission tips. This year, for the first time, the College set up a “Science Corner” and over 500 participants had fun winning souvenirs by cracking Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics questions.
