As a fourth-year research student at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, my passion for biomedical research has been nurtured since my time at CityU. I am currently engaged in a project focused on investigating the intricate relationship between cell transformation. Recently, I had the privilege of attending a conference organised by Rohto Advanced Research Hong Kong Ltd (Rohto ARHK) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), where I was delighted to receive the recognition of Best Poster Lecture. This esteemed award serves as a powerful encouragement for me to persist in my pursuit of scientific research.

Throughout the research process, I have encountered numerous challenges and unexpected hurdles. Often, despite investing substantial effort, the results we obtain deviate from our initial expectations. It is not uncommon to immerse oneself in extensive literature readings, explore alternative methodologies, and even shift research directions. Despite the time-consuming, costly, and occasionally arduous nature of research, my enthusiasm for my project remains steadfast. The pursuit of excellence and the desire to present impactful work have become my unwavering sources of motivation. With the support of the Foundation, alongside the guidance provided by my supervisor and collaborative efforts with my lab partners, I have made unexpected progress, surpassing the goals outlined in the original proposal. The satisfaction derived from completing one task fuels my determination to deliver an even more exceptional performance in subsequent endeavors.

Once again, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to The Tung Foundation for supporting us. Your support has not only served as a remarkable source of motivation but has also provided invaluable assistance in my pursuit of excellence across various aspects.

I would like to be here to express my gratitude and say “thank you” to The Tung Foundation for the great support for our research in cardiovascular diseases and regenerative medicine. It is the Foundation’s generosity and kindness that makes our story happen!

As a research student, it was challenging and hard in the first year I came to Hong Kong. Despite unknown difficulties and following failures, a disciplined attitude of designing study and conducting experiments gradually shaped my mind and upgraded my techniques towards a qualified researcher. Research is challenging but also attractive when a scientific problem is tackled step-wisely using a scientific approach. Moreover, the exploration in different fields and attempts to exploit feasible means significantly expand the horizon of critical thinking and problem-solving. Most importantly, the potential of transforming the research outcomes into biological or clinical applications makes all the efforts meaningful!

The story of my research as well as my personal growth, however, could not reach further if without the continuous support of the Foundation. It is the kind encouragement that allows me to overcome the hurdles and seek the possibility of success in our research for heart repair.

The donation from The Tung Foundation has helped bring the study of 3D culture in high through put and high content drug screening system to the table by enhancing research efficiency and productivity. It is a promising and highly efficient screening system for anti-cancer therapy plan selection and basic cell response study. With this new system, our researchers could save the time for handling the 96 well plates from one well to another manually. This had been so time-consuming! Now, we just need to put everything into the screening system, it will track cell response and provide result automatically. The Centre’s sponsorship for advanced equipment has helped us in allocating our time in a more effective and impactful way. Together, we will favourable impact on our world!

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the generous funding provided by the Tung Foundation, with the support, I successfully completed my PhD study in Year 2024.

During my PhD study, I focused on developing a novel platform for highly accurate molecular diagnostics at the point of care test with my team partner. This groundbreaking work led to the filing of 5 patents in US and China. The platform has the potential to revolutionize molecular diagnostics by enabling precise and efficient testing at the point of care.

I am also delighted to share that, thanks to the Tung Foundation’s support, I was able to co-found a university spin-off and start-up company named VisGen Diagnostics Limited. This venture has allowed me to continue my career at CityU and further contribute to the field of biomedical sciences.

I am truly grateful for the Tung Foundation’s generous support, which has played a crucial role in the success of our research endeavors. The funding provided by the foundation has not only allowed me to complete my PhD studies but has also paved the way for significant advancements in the field of molecular diagnostics.

Our achievements would not have been possible without the Tung Foundation’s belief in our work and the financial support provided. I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous donation to support cancer research at CityU! Your contribution means more than words can express, and it brings hope to so many individuals and families affected by cancer.

With your donation, we have constructed a series of cancer study platforms targeting on the understanding of cancer metastasis and treatments. Our work has been published at several high impact scientific journals. And the research products have filed couple patents including China and United States. With your support, I am able to conduct cutting edge research and get several honors. I was awarded by CityU Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Doctoral Research Award, Outstanding Research Thesis Awards, Jockey Club Global STEM Post-doctoral Fellowship. The work I presented at CityU Biomedical Research Gala also awarded as 2nd prize oral presentation. I will not able to achieve those awards without your generous support on research.
