New Student Enrolment

Pre-enrolment

Please complete all the online pre-enrolment procedures in order to be scheduled for an in-person enrolment appointment. Please visit go.cityu.edu.hk/acteid and perform the procedures as follows: 

  1. activate your Electronic ID (EID),
  2. read and accept the Declaration upon Enrolment,
  3. update personal data for communication,
  4. indicate your choice in the Use of Personal Data in Direct Marketing,
  5. complete the Declaration on Insurance Agreement (applicable to non-local students only),
  6. upload your photo for student identity card production,
  7. submit identity documents for verification, and
  8. complete the General Health Questionnaire. 

Please complete the online pre-enrolment as soon as possible. For a demonstration, please refer to the pre-enrolment guidelines. You may also check your pre-enrolment progress in AIMS [Services for New Student > Check My Pre-enrolment Progress].

Please note that the verification of submitted identity documents normally takes 5 working days (excluding the day of submission). Failing to submit any of the required documents will delay the scheduling of your in-person enrolment appointment. 

You will be eligible for in-person enrolment after all the online pre-enrolment procedures, including the verification of submitted identity documents, are completed. A confirmation letter with the details of your in-person enrolment appointment will be issued to you in the Admission Application System within 24 hours upon completion of all the online pre-enrolment procedures.

Upon successful completion of the pre-enrolment procedures, you will be entitled to use all electronic resources available at the University. More information about our IT facilities can be found at www.cityu.edu.hk/it/student.

Identity Documents for Enrolment

At the time of enrolment, you are required to provide the following documents to the University for verification:

  • if you are a permanent resident of Hong Kong,
    1. your Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
  • if you are a non-permanent resident of Hong Kong,
    1. your Passport / Exit-entry Permit with appropriate visa (visa validity date must be on or after 6 October 2024) / Document of Identity,
    2. the latest landing slip, and
    3. your Hong Kong Identity Card (if available)
  • if you are a student visa holder,
    1. your Passport / Exit-entry Permit with appropriate student visa issued for the programme to be enrolled in which has been activated at the immigration checkpoint upon entry to Hong Kong (visa validity date must be on or after 2 June 2025),
    2. the latest landing slip, and
    3. your Hong Kong Identity Card (if available)

Non-local students must produce a valid visa / entry permit activated at the immigration checkpoint upon entry to Hong Kong. Expired visas, visitor visas and student visas not having been activated will not be accepted. In-person Enrolment

All new students are required to come to the University campus for enrolment. The scheduled date, time and venue are shown in the confirmation letter. The enrolment procedures normally take about 30-40 minutes.

The in-person enrolment period is from 15 to 31 August 2024. Your appointment will be scheduled for any day within the period. Authorizing another person to perform in-person enrolment on your behalf is not allowed. Please plan your visit in advance.

If you do not complete the in-person enrolment procedures by 14 September 2024, you will be considered as having given up the place for admission. All fees paid will not be refunded.

Student Identity Card

You will be issued a student identity card after enrolment. The card bears your name and student number with a photo which is for identification purpose at the University. Your mode of study (full-time, part-time or combined mode), programme level, admission date and expiry date will also be shown on your student identity card.

New students must submit their photos via AIMS so as to complete the online pre-enrolment. For the photo requirements in detail, please click here. The procedures of photo submission can be found here.

Adverse Weather Arrangements for Enrolment and Qualification Checking

The adverse weather arrangements apply when:

  1. a typhoon signal No.8 or above is issued; or
  2. the Hong Kong Observatory announces that a typhoon signal No. 8 or above will be issued within 2 hours; or
  3. a black rainstorm warning signal is issued; or
  4. an "extreme condition" announcement is issued by the Government after super typhoons.

When the adverse weather signal / announcement is issued:

  • At or after 7:00 am, the enrolment and qualification checking session with commencement time before 2:00 pm will be cancelled.
  • At or after 12:00 noon, the enrolment and qualification checking session with commencement time after 2:00 pm but before 7:30 pm will be cancelled.

In the event the adverse weather signal / announcement is issued, the University will be closed. The cancelled enrolment and qualification checking session(s) will be rescheduled as stated below. Students with a scheduled appointment will be notified of the details for the rescheduled arrangement via email.

Further Action after Enrolment

Please read the following carefully and take the required actions:

1. Electronic Communication
Important information related to your studies, such as alerts to view your e-statement of tuition fees and e-announcements on course registration, class schedules, examinations, etc., will be sent to the CityUHK email account assigned to you and/or posted in the CityUHK Announcement Portal (CAP).

You should check your student email regularly or set up email forwarding to your personal email to ensure you do not miss any important communication from the University. Failure to do so does not constitute a valid justification for missing deadlines for handing in course assignments, submitting various applications, or payment of fees, etc.

2. Rules and Regulations
The University has rules and regulations governing academic matters, tuition fees, enrolment and related issues that students must observe. Visit our website to read the rules and regulations in detail.

For students admitted in Semester A 2024/25 and thereafter, a master's award may be granted only if they have achieved a CGPA of 2.0 or above and fulfil other programme-specific graduation requirements, if applicable. 3. Academic Honesty
Academic honesty is central to the conduct of all academic work. To enhance students’ understanding of academic honesty, all new students admitted in Semester A 2024/25 are required to complete the online tutorial and quiz, and submit the declaration on or before 30 November 2024 in order to access their grade results online. Please visit cityu.edu.hk/ah and complete the online declaration as soon as possible.

4. Course Registration
Classes will start on Monday, 2 September 2024. Some courses may be pre-registered for you. You may check the Master Class Schedule and your Personal Class Schedule in AIMS from 30 July 2024. Please visit cityu.edu.hk/sgs/student/masters/coursereg/schedule/ to learn more about the procedures for retrieving your Personal Class Schedule from AIMS.

If you need to add/drop courses on the web, please check your course registration time ticket in AIMS. For more information on course registration, please visit cityu.edu.hk/sgs/student/masters/coursereg.

Details about your programme structure and course syllabi are available on the Programme and Course Catalogue. You are advised to communicate with your home academic unit for the arrangements specific to your programme.

5. Credit Transfer
Applications for credit transfer for work completed prior to entry to the University must be submitted on/before 30 August 2024. Details about the relevant regulations and procedures are available at cityu.edu.hk/sgs/student/masters/records/credittransfer

6. Tuition and Other Fees
The payment schedule and methods are available at cityu.edu.hk/fo/htm/TPg_fees.htm. You may view your account summary in AIMS and find out more details about the tuition fee arrangement at cityu.edu.hk/sgs/files/student/masters/Masters_fees.pdf.

An e-statement of your account for Semester A 2024/25 will be posted in AIMS [Student Record > My Finance] on 17 August 2024. If the statement balance is not settled in full by 2 September 2024, a late payment charge of 2% of the outstanding balance will be added to your account.

7. Maximum Period of Study
Students shall complete all programme requirements within the stipulated maximum period of study, inclusive of programme transfer and any periods of leave of absence and suspension of studies. You may find the normal and maximum study period of individual master's programmes at cityu.edu.hk/sgs/student/masters/regulations/maxstudyperiod. Students who cannot complete all programme requirements for graduation within the maximum study period will be required to discontinue their studies.

8. Graduation
The graduation date of individual students is determined by students’ own study progress. Students who complete their graduation requirements in a specific semester/term will have the corresponding graduation date of that semester/term. Students should plan their studies ahead to fulfil their graduation requirements in their preferred semester/term. After fulfilling all their graduation requirements, students will not be allowed to defer their graduation to a later semester/term.

Students with Special Educational Needs

Students with special educational needs are advised to inform the University so that where possible, appropriate assistance can be provided. Please complete the “Special Educational Needs Declaration”, which will be available in AIMS [Student Record > My Applications (for Undergraduate and Master’s (Taught Postgraduate) Programmes) > Special Educational Needs Declaration] from 29 July to 14 September 2024.
