JUPAS Applicants
Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) students may apply for admission to first-year studies in our degree programmes via JUPAS (JUPAS Catalogue No.: JS1051).  During their first year, students will be admitted with an undeclared major and study a broad range of Gateway Education (GE) courses as well as core-curricular courses designed by the School.  After one year of study in the School, they will enter one of the majors, i.e., ESE and EVE.

Top 40% of students in the School will be allocated their first choice major upon satisfying the selection criteria stipulated by the University while the remaining 60% of students will be allocated a major subject to availability of places and the selection criteria stipulated by SEE.

Direct / Non-JUPAS Applicants
Students with qualifications other than HKDSE may apply for admission to first-year studies or with advanced standing in our degree programmes via the route of direct / non-JUPAS application.  Generally speaking, there are mainly two types of applicants with corresponding admission arrangements as follows:

(A) Admission to First-Year Studies (Four-Year Curriculum) [Programme Code: 1051]
Same as those admitted via JUPAS, applicants holding a 12-year school-leaving qualification, or a partially completed sub-degree qualification will study a broad range of Gateway Education (GE) courses as well as core-curricular courses designed by the School with an undeclared major.  They will enter either ESE or EVE after one year of study in the School.  Same mechanism of major allocation is applicable to these applicants.

(B) Admission with Advanced Standing [Programme Code: 1694A (for ESE); 1702A (for EVE)]
Applicants holding a 13-year school-leaving qualification, an Associate Degree/Higher Diploma or other equivalent qualifications, an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, a General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCEAL) qualification or degree transfer students may apply for admission to first-year studies in our degree programmes, or admission to a major in Energy Science and Engineering OR Environmental Science and Engineering with Advanced Standing.

Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Science and Engineering
and Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance
(Programme Code: JS1052 / 1052)

Why “BEng in Environmental Science and Engineering and BBA in Finance”?

As the demand for professionals with expertise in environmental engineering, green finance, and Environment Social Governance (ESG) continues to rise, it has become increasingly apparent that there is a shortage of local financial professionals with expertise in ESG, as noted in the Chief Executive’s 2022 Policy Address.  Given Hong Kong’s strength as an international financial centre, it is imperative to further establish its status as a preferred ESG investment hub.  Investors will likely shift their priority to companies with high ESG performance and commitment towards the carbon neutrality target.  Moreover, areas like green finance and carbon emission trading are gaining importance in the financial field.

In response to the aforesaid developments, the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) is proud to offer, in collaboration with the Department of Economics and Finance (EF), the double degree programme, Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Science and Engineering and Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance.

Through this double degree programme, students will receive a rigorous and comprehensive education in both environmental engineering and finance.  They will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to address the challenges of sustainable finance, not just in Hong Kong but also in the global context.  By bridging the gap between these two fields, graduates of this programme will be well-prepared to tackle complex sustainability issues from a multidisciplinary perspective.

For the curriculum and other details, please refer to the programme page.

By the end of the programme, students will have a comprehensive understanding of sustainable business and ESG, and be able to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios.  They will also have a solid foundation in the science behind non-financial disclosures, and be familiar with the latest trends and technologies in sustainable energy and other fields in support of investment decision-making for sustainable finance.

International Sustainability Programme for Innovation, Research and Entrepreneurship (INSPIRE)
(Programme Code: JS1050)

Why “INSPIRE”?

Flagship_Programmes_Logo_CMYK_b.jpg

With its first cohort being admitted in the 2025/26 academic year, International Sustainability Programme for Innovation, Research and Entrepreneurship (INSPIRE), one of the Flagship Programmes of the University, aims to provide exemplary students with a comprehensive and globally focused education in energy and environmental engineering.  Expanding on the Energy Science and Engineering (ESE) and Environmental Science and Engineering (EVE) programmes, INSPIRE incorporates enhanced overseas study experiences, internship opportunities, research components, mentorship support and entrepreneurial training.

Students will benefit from the specialized curriculum in energy, environment and sustainability, along with extensive training in global perspectives, innovative mindset and research.  They will start with a common year of foundation study.  The programme content covers a wide spectrum of areas, allowing students to explore knowledge in a number of environments.  At the beginning of their studies, they will develop a broad scientific foundation by studying courses in basic science, covering mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry and biology before they are guided through an in-depth exploration of environment and energy issues.

At the end of Year 1, INSPIRE students can then decide their academic and research interests, and be allocated their preferred major between ESE and EVE without any selection criteria set for majors allocation.

For the curriculum and other details, please refer to the programme page.

JUPAS Applicants
Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) students may apply for admission to INSPIRE via JUPAS (JUPAS Catalogue No.: JS1050).
