In Hong Kong, buildings account for 90% of electricity consumption and more than 50% greenhouse gas emission. Green building, which aims at reducing the environmental impact while enhancing the well-being of occupants, therefore plays an important role in decarbonization in Hong Kong. To showcase the environmental performance of green buildings, various green building rating tools, such as BEAM Plus and LEED, have been developed. In this career talk, the basic concepts about green building certifications and the job duties of green building practitioners will be discussed. It is hoped that students can find useful insights on preparing to work in the field of building sustainability through this career talk.
