Visit to Hong Kong Observatory on 7 October 2016

Students taking the undergraduate course, SEE3201 Atmospheric Science – An Introductory Survey, offered by the School participated in the visit to Hong Kong Observatory on 7 October 2016.  The visit was guided by Mr. Ken Wong, Experimental Officer (EO) of the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO).

During the visit, the students were shown (i) the history of HKO, (ii) the duties of HKO, (iii) working principle of some meteorological instruments and (iv) how TV weather reports are made and disseminated to the public with the latest technology.  The students appreciated the efforts report presenters have to make to prepare each TV weather report.  They were also introduced the operational meteorological instruments installed in the Meteorology Garden.

Taking this opportunity, we would like to thank the HKO and Mr. Wong for organizing the visit and being our tour guide.
