SEE secures ITSP Platform Research Project for Valuable Resource Recovery
Development of Dual Ammonia Removal/Recovery from Sludge Digestate using a Novel Hollow Fiber/Flat Sheet Membrane Distillation led by Prof. Alicia An and Prof. Shauhrat S. CHOPRA
Funded by HK$1.3M and additional support for postdocs for two years, this project seeks to offer a compact, feasible, and low-energy solution to uniquely treat Reject Liquor while recovering valuable resources. This project proposes a coupled hollow fiber – flat sheet MD system (HFMD-FSMD) for efficient and feasible removal and recovery of ammonia nitrogen from anaerobic digestion effluents, minimizing environmental impacts and complying with the circular economy concept. A thorough techno-economic analysis (TEA) of the coupled system will demonstrate its viability in Hong Kong's wastewater and sludge digestion process.
