SEE Postgraduate Student won The Student Best Poster Award in the Global Chinese Environmental Protection Conference 2024

Under the supervision of Prof. Carol Lin, a postgraduate student at the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), Mr. Zihao Qin, won the Student Best Poster Award in the Global Chinese Environmental Protection Conference 2024 (GCEPC 2024; 2024全球華人環境保護研討會), which was organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  The conference took place at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 24 to 27 May, 2024.  The theme of GCEPC 2024 is Sustainable Ecological and Environment Development toward Carbon Neutrality (朝向碳中和的可持續生態與環境發展).

Zihao’s poster, titled ‘Valorization of Food Waste into Bio-based Polyurethane Rigid Foams’, introduces an innovative food waste biorefinery scheme to valorise food waste lipids into bio-based polyurethane rigid foams.  Due to its versatility, it can be used in various applications such as insulation materials in the building and construction industry. By highlighting the environmental benefit and economic profitability, this work aims to provide insights to promote the sustainable development of food waste biorefineries and the relevant bio-based polymers production.
