Fostering Sustainable Innovation: University-Industry Collaboration for Green Technology Transfer
At the 2024 THE Global Sustainable Development Congress, experts empathized the importance of collaboration among the government, industry, and universities for successful innovation. City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) was commended for being a hub for research and innovation. Professor Angus Yip Hin-Lap highlighted how partnerships between universities, industries, and governments are crucial for sharing new technologies.
Associate Dean of the School of Energy and Environment, Professor Edwin Tso Chi-Yan discussed the university's focus on translating research into practical solutions. The Hong Kong Institute for Clean Energy of CityUHK concentrates on clean energy research, bringing together different fields to create innovative energy solutions and advise the government on energy-related matters.
Adjunct Professor of the College of Business, Professor Martin Zhu, who is also the CEO of i2Cool limited (an alumnus of CityUHK), shared his successful experience running a business with the support from HK Tech 300, a program born from university research that developed an energy-saving cooling paint.. Ms. Law Yee Ping from the Greater Bay Area Carbon Neutrality Association advocated for green financing as a sustainable business model. Mr. Gary Yeung Man-Yui from the Smart City Consortium highlighted policy challenges affecting the adoption of green technology in the region.
Through the leadership of individuals like Professors Yip and Tso, CityUHK is demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable innovation, working towards a greener future locally and globally.
