CityUHK's PoWater Team Triumphs in Global Energy Transition Competition

We are thrilled to share that PoWater team, led by Ph.D. candidates Haosheng LIN from Professor Wei WU's team and Xinya HAO from Professor Lin ZHANG's team, has secured the first prize in Northeast Asia and the global third prize in the ISETS-UNESCAP Energy Transition Youth Voices Competition.

The team, from the School of Energy and Environment, recently won prizes in the global competition held in Chengdu and was subsequently invited to present at the International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, UNESCAP) headquarters, Bangkok. LIN and HAO were also elected as 4-person ISETS Youth Committee members, drafting and reading the ISETS Youth Declaration at the forum, calling for global youth engagement in energy transition challenges.

PoWater's innovative "energy storage + harvesting water from air" concept and "power-to-water battery, P2W battery" product have garnered recognition for their ingenuity, economic viability, high efficiency, and commercialization potential. The team is now accelerating the development of the third generation of their "P2W battery," aiming to provide commercial solutions for global water scarcity and distributed renewable energy consumption.

The ISETS-ESCAP Energy Transition Youth Voices Competition, co-hosted by the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS) and UN-ESCAP, aims to expedite energy transition and offers a platform for global youth leaders. The competition attracted nearly 300 projects from 37 countries, with six teams receiving global final awards.

Haosheng LIN, 2021 Ph.D. candidate in Professor Wei WU's BEST team, focuses on heat and mass transfer, air water harvesting, and distributed energy systems. He is a main patent holder for the "P2W battery" and is responsible for the team's development and technological research.

Xinya HAO, 2022 Ph.D. candidate in Professor Lin ZHANG's E3M team, majors in energy economics. As a key founding member of PoWater, Hao oversees the team's strategy, financing, and financial management.
