Celebrating Professor Shauhrat Chopra: A CityUHK Hero in Sustainability

We are proud to announce that Professor Shauhrat Chopra, Associate Professor at the School of Energy and Environment, has been featured as one of the CityUHK Heroes. Professor Chopra has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to sustainability and his ranking among the World’s Top 2% most-cited scientists by Stanford University in 2023.

Born in the 90s, Professor Chopra is one of the youngest faculty members at CityUHK to achieve this prestigious ranking. Growing up in cities like New Delhi, Yangon, and Hyderabad, he witnessed firsthand the intricate relationship between economic development and environmental sustainability. These experiences laid the groundwork for his future endeavors in sustainable urban systems.

Professor Chopra's research focuses on developing resilience models that guide decision-making processes for sustainable urban development. His work on the resilience of transportation in Hong Kong has highlighted the benefits of interconnected transportation modes and the challenges of communicating these findings to policymakers.

Since joining CityUHK in 2018, Professor Chopra has been an active advocate for sustainability on campus. He is a member of the Campus Sustainability Committee, where he has contributed to designing the carbon neutrality assessment methodology for CityUHK, ensuring the university leads the sustainability transition among Hong Kong universities.
