Accreditation of MSc Energy and Environment by Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM)
The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) is pleased to announce that our MSc in Energy and Environment Programme has been accredited by The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) since September 2016 until 2026, in addition to the current accreditation by the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM).
CIWEM is the only Royal Chartered professional body based in UK dedicated to the water and environment sector, representing and supporting a community of thousands of members globally, devoted to improving water and environmental management and associated social and cultural issues. Accreditation of our programme means that our graduates will have partially satisfied the academic requirement of CIWEM1, and will only need an equivalent professional experience to apply for Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) under the Engineering Council and Society for the Environment (SocEnv) in UK after acquiring the 14 Mandatory Competencies of CIWEM2. CEng can then apply as Chartered Engineer in Chemical, Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering disciplines at the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers (HKIE) through the Reciprocal Recognition Agreement (RRA).
Students enrolled in our programme are eligible for free Student Membership of CIWEM. Upon graduation, our graduates can be transferred from Student Membership to Graduate Membership. CIWEM also has a local branch in Hong Kong, the only one in Asia, which offers numerous events, technical visits, workshops and opportunities for professional development.
