CityUHK's SIAM Student Chapter Hosts Successful Annual Meeting, 2023
City University's Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Student Chapter held its eagerly anticipated annual meeting at 12th May 2023, attracting an impressive turnout of dedicated students.
The meeting, which took place at B5-311 YEUNG (AC1), drew an enthusiastic crowd of more than 10 students eager to learn more about the organization, its activities, and the benefits of membership. The event offered attendees an insightful look into the world of applied mathematics and computational science.
The agenda covered a brief history and introduction to SIAM as an organization, an overview of CityUHK's SIAM Student Chapter, and introductions to the chapter's officers and supportive faculty advisors. Attendees also got a sneak peek at the organization's upcoming activities and events. A major highlight of the meeting was the interactive session where students were encouraged to share their thoughts, suggestions, and ideas for future events and activities.
"Feedback from our members is invaluable. It helps us shape our events, activities, and overall strategy," said Mr. Cui, the President of CityUHK’s SIAM student chapter. "We were excited to see so many attendees actively participating and sharing their ideas."
The meeting not only focused on academic and professional development, but also promoted a sense of community among the students. In a nod to this, free drinks were provided to all attendees, making the event a mix of learning and socialization.
Following the meeting, the Student Chapter encouraged attendees to officially register as members, emphasizing the wealth of benefits SIAM membership brings, including access to job and career information, and travel subsidies from SIAM.
The annual meeting was a testament to the Student Chapter's commitment to fostering a vibrant and supportive community for students interested in applied mathematics and computational science. The CityUHK SIAM Student Chapter is looking forward to hosting more engaging and beneficial events in the future.
