LC Summer Learning Program in France

Program Objective:

  1. To boost the language proficiency of student participants in French.
  2. To promote intercultural awareness among students.
  3. To enhance students' knowledge of French culture and society.
  4. To promote a culture of discovery and achievement among students and instill a sense of responsibility about their own learning.

Brief overview:
This four-week language and culture immersion program, offered by the Chan Feng Men-ling Chan Shuk-lin Language Centre, enables participating students to enhance their French language skills and deepen their understanding of French culture. Hosted by the Institut de Langue et Culture Françaises (ILCF) at the Université Catholique de Lyon, the program includes 80 hours of intensive language classes, complemented by cultural activities and outings. Upon successful completion, participants are awarded a certificate that reflects their proficiency level.

Tentative Itinerary:

30 June 2025 (Monday) –
1 July 2025 (Tuesday)		 Departure from Hong Kong to Lyon, France
1 July 2025 (Tuesday) –
29 July 2025 (Tuesday)		 Intensive language and culture program; and Visits and/or cultural activities in or outside the city (either organized by the host institution, or by themselves)
30 July 2025 (Wednesday) Return from Lyon, France to Hong Kong

Post-event evaluation and submission:
After returning to Hong Kong, each student is required to submit a report to the French Coordinator detailing the extent to which the objectives set in their study plan have been met and reflecting on their immersion experience.

Additionally, each student must submit 10 photos featuring themselves, rather than scenery or food, along with a two-minute video regarding their cultural and educational experiences during the program.

Estimated Student Contribution:
The University's Global Experience for All Funding Scheme subsidizes up to 60% of the direct costs for participants in this LC Summer Program. These costs include the course fee, airfare, accommodation, and local transportation between the airport and student residence on both the arrival and departure days. Students participating in the program are responsible for the remaining expenses.

The estimated contribution required from each student is approximately HKD11,215. However, selected students should refer to the latest announcements from the LC to confirm the exact amount, as this could vary due to fluctuations in flight fees, exchange rates, and other related cost factors.

Program Specific Requirements:
Any undergraduate student who is currently learning (or who has learnt) French at CityUHK is eligible to apply for this summer program. Preferences will be given to students in their senior years of study who demonstrated great interest in their studies with a proven track record of consistently good academic performance, as well as an interest in French language and culture.
