Students who apply to CityU through JUPAS (The Joint University Programmes Admissions System) are exempt from the LC course if they have achieved the following level.

Students who are not admitted through JUPAS may provide proof that they took one of the following exams in the past two years and achieved at least the score below.

Newly admitted students have until the end of their first semester to apply for review of alternative qualifications. Requests after the first semester will not be considered.
To be objective and fair to everyone, these rules apply to all students, including those who have lived in English-speaking countries, those who speak English at home, and even those whose only language is English.
Exception: Students who already have a degree from a university in an English-speaking country are exempt from the LC courses.
Students who demonstrate an overall grade B or above in the LC0200A course will be granted an exemption from taking LC0200B, and will be considered to have fulfilled the pre-requisite requirement for the GE1401 (University English) course. These students will be permitted to proceed to directly to the GE University English course.
