Program Objective:
Brief overview:
The core component of the program is the intensive Putonghua (Mandarin) course, which spans four weeks and focuses on developing proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension. Upon arrival, students will take part in a language proficiency examination which will determine their placement in one of multiple levels of instruction offered by the host institution. Through engaging activities and cultural/linguistic immersion, students will have the opportunity to make rapid progress in their language skills.
In addition to the language course, the summer program offers a diverse range of cultural events and leisure activities. Participating students will have the opportunity to engage in cultural excursions, visit historical landmarks, experience local traditions, and interact with local students and community members in Beijing. These activities aim to promote cross-border exchange and provide students with insights into the history, culture and system of the host community.
A program certificate will be awarded upon the successful completion of the Intensive Practical Putonghua (Mandarin) course.

Estimated Student Contribution:
The University's Global Experience for All Funding Scheme subsidizes up to 60% of the direct costs for participants in this LC Summer Program. These costs include the course fee, airfare, accommodation, and local transportation between the airport and student residence on both the arrival and departure days. Students participating in the program are responsible for the remaining expenses.
The estimated contribution required from each student is approximately HKD7,000. However, selected students should refer to the latest announcements from the LC to confirm the exact amount, as this could vary due to fluctuations in flight fees, exchange rates, and other related cost factors.
Program Specific Requirements:
Any CityUHK student with demonstrated interest in Putonghua (Mandarin) is eligible to apply. Priority may be given to students who are currently learning (or who have studied) Putonghua (Mandarin) with the Chan Feng Men-ling Chan Shuk-lin Language Centre.
