Student Eligibility Check Form - (Winter Break, 2024/25)
Guidelines for Students
The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) has set up the STEM Internship Scheme ("the Scheme") to encourage STEM students to gain innovation and technology (I & T)-related work experience during their studies and to foster their interest in pursuing a career in I&T after graduation, so as to enlarge the local I&T talent pool.
Eligibility
The Scheme is open to local and non-local students enrolled in the following programmes of College of Science, CityUHK:
1. Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics
2. Bachelor of Science in Physics
3. Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
4. Bachelor of Science in Computing Mathematics
5. Global Research Enrichment and Technopreneurship (GREAT)
6. Research Postgraduate (College of Science) (UGC-funded students only)
Non-local students are only allowed to enroll in internships in Hong Kong under the Scheme. Non-local internships can only be arranged through the College, self-sourced will not be accepted. The ratio of non-local interns to total number of interns under CityUHK is capped at 40% in principle.
Duration
The minimum duration for each internship shall be four consecutive weeks (28 calendar days) with no maximum duration. Nevertheless, an intern cannot receive allowance under the Scheme for more than three months (on an accumulative basis) in every academic year.
Financial Arrangement
Eligible students undertaking the Scheme will receive a monthly allowance of HK$11,190, fully funded by ITC, capped at three months. Upon successful completion of the internship, allowance will be disbursed via CityUHK Finance Office to students directly estimate in May 2025 for Semester A & Winter Break internships, July 2025 for Semester B internships and December 2025 for summer internships (May-August) respectively. Participating employers may pay the student interns a monthly honorarium on top of the allowance under the Scheme with reference to their internal policies, industry benchmarks or market rates.
Application Procedures
1. Apply to the company directly according to the procedure and deadline as stated in the job list.
2. If the employer intends to give you an internship offer, you can ask the employer to fill in the "Student Eligibility Check Form" under the Useful Forms section.
3. After your eligibility is confirmed, the employer will invite you to report your internship acceptance details to the College of Science by completing a designated form.
4. Once the offer acceptance details are received and approved, you may proceed to sign the employment contract with the employer.
Guidelines for Employers
Eligible students undertaking the Scheme will receive a monthly allowance of HK$11,190, fully funded by ITC, capped at 3 months. As long as employers are able to provide innovation and technology-related work opportunities with duration at least 4 consecutive weeks and the positions are filled by eligible CityUHK students; the allowance will be fully funded by ITC via CityUHK.
