Professor Hua Zhang, an expert in nanomaterials and the Herman Hu Chair Professor of Nanomaterials from the College of Science’s Department of Chemistry, recently received two prestigious awards: the Croucher Senior Research Fellowships 2025-26 and the Bank of China (BOCHK) Science and Technology Innovation Prize (STIP). Heartfelt congratulations to Professor Zhang!
Being bestowed the Croucher Senior Research Fellowship, Professor Zhang will be offered a grant of HK$2 million for his research work, and most importantly, to be relieved of all teaching and administrative duties for one year to do full-time research in Hong Kong.
As one of the College of Science (CSCI)’s highly cited researchers 2024, Professor Zhang was also presented with the prestigious Bank of China (BOCHK) Science and Technology Innovation Prize (STIP) for his pioneering contributions to the field of phase engineering of nanomaterials. His research has led to the stabilization of unconventional-phase nanomaterials, which exhibit unique physicochemical properties with applications in clean energy, catalysis and sensors. His innovative Phase Engineering of Nanomaterials (PEN) strategy has resulted in significant advancements in catalytic activity and energy technologies, providing new solutions for sustainable development and environmental concerns.
The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is a merit-based award established by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation (HKATI) and sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. It celebrates outstanding scientists and research teams in Hong Kong or related institutions in the Greater Bay Area for significant scientific and technological innovation achievements.
Congratulations to Professor Zhang on these well-deserved honours!
