CSCI Chemist Receives Highest Funding among CityUHK’s RGC Research Impact Fund Recipients
Professor Zonglong Zhu from the Department of Chemistry has been awarded the Research Grants Council (RGC)’s Research Impact Fund (RIF) for the year 2024/25.

Professor Zonglong Zhu from the Department of Chemistry under the College of Science (CSCI), City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has been awarded the Research Grants Council (RGC)’s Research Impact Fund (RIF) for the year 2024/25. Congratulations!

Titled “Advancing Sustainable and Closed-loop Eco-friendly Emerging Perovskite Photovoltaic Technologies”, the awarded project led by Professor Zhu received $7.7 million in funding from RGC, the highest among the five CityUHK’s awarded projects. On top of that, CityUHK will match $3.3 million, which makes the total funding for this project reach $11 million. The funding serves as another recognition of our faculty members’ outstanding research capabilities in their respective fields.

The RIF scheme is designed to support local academics in exploring and articulating the potential of their research to benefit the wider community. It encourages impactful and translational research projects and fosters greater collaboration beyond academia, for example, with government departments, the business sector, the industry and research institutes. This round has been CityUHK’s most successful year, securing 35% of the RGC fund out of the total $75 million, for five out of the total 14 grants awarded. This significant achievement also positions CityUHK as the top recipient for the 2024/25 round.

Congratulations to Professor Zhu for the well-deserved recognition in advancing knowledge and making a significant impact on society.
