CSCI Physicist Secures RGC Collaborative Research Fund

Another RGC funding secured! Professor Qi Liu from the Department of Physics under the College of Science (CSCI), City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), has been awarded the Young Collaborative Research Grant (YCRG) under the Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) 2024/25. Congratulations!

Led by Professor Liu, the project titled “High-capacity Lithium-rich Cathode Materials for High-energy Lithium-ion Batteries” received around $4.3 million in funding from RGC. The funding showcases our faculty members’ exceptional research expertise and commitment to advancing the frontiers of knowledge. CityUHK will match extra funding to Professor Liu’s project.

The main objective of YCRG is to support early-stage researchers in gaining first-hand experience in leading and managing collaborative research, so they will be better prepared in competing for larger collaborative research funding in the next stage of their careers. The net amount of funding requested from RGC ranges from $2 million to $5 million per project.

The CRF supports multi-investigator, multi-disciplinary projects to encourage more research groups to engage in creative, high-quality, cross-disciplinary/cross-institutional projects. CityUHK secured over $60 million in RGC funds for the 2024/25 round, showing an increase of over 34% compared with the previous round of exercise.

Congratulations to Professor Liu as his work embodies the dedication and commitment that inspires progress in his specialised research field.
