City University of Hong Kong and the University of Cambridge signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in academic and research collaboration. Outstanding students from the College of Science (CSCI) seized opportunities to pursue academic career and internship.
With financial support from CityUHK, Issac Ho, a third-year student from CSCI’s flagship GREAT programme (Physics stream), finished a fruitful 6-month research internship at the University of Cambridge in August 2024. His research is about condensed matter physics, which requires delicate equipment and precise measurement skills.
Under the guidance of Dr. Montu Saxena at the University of Cambridge, Issac not only acquired practical skills for experiments but also learned the importance of building an intuitive picture that consolidates understanding of the topic. Another significant exposure he experienced at Cambridge is Kazakhstan and Central Asian culture, since two of his colleagues are from Kazakhstan and Dr. Saxena, also the Director of the Cambridge Central Asia Forum, promotes Central Asian cultures in Cambridge.
Issac described his study at Cambridge “delightful”, thanks to the atmosphere from the classical architecture, the serenity of nature and most importantly the helpfulness of his colleagues. “From the extensive cultural immerse on here, I learned much about different cultures and adapted to living with others. This is an exceptional experience and would help me work with people worldwide.” He concluded.
