CityUHK has performed remarkably well in the latest global rankings: named Hong Kong’s No.2 in both the inaugural “Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025 in association with Schmidt Science Fellows”, and the ShanghaiRanking’s “2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)”.
CityUHK was ranked 25th globally among 749 universities, eighth in Asia and second in Hong Kong in the “Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025 in association with Schmidt Science Fellows”. This ranking evaluates universities’ contributions to interdisciplinary research to enhance scientific excellence, promote collaboration among universities, and provide benchmark data to encourage the creation of an interdisciplinary teaching and research environment.
On the other hand, CityUHK was ranked second in Hong Kong in the ShanghaiRanking’s 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), neck-and-neck with the Chinese University of Hong Kong. ARWU uses six objective indicators to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate, the number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, the number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded™ and Social Sciences Citation Index™ in the Web of Science™, and per capita performance of a university.
