College of Science Students Achieve Teaching Success at Local Secondary Schools

Sixteen students from the College of Science (CSCI) have recently taken on the rewarding role of science teachers at Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School: delivering engaging science lessons to Form 2 students. This innovative teaching scheme has not only benefited the secondary students but has also provided valuable teaching experience for CSCI students, enhancing their educational journey.

Following the success of the scheme, CSCI expanded our outreach efforts by adding Tin Shui Wai Government Secondary School as a new teaching partner this year. The collaboration aims to broaden the impact of science education and inspire more young minds.

CSCI students used different fruits to teach the principles of electrochemistry and demonstrated power sources.

To facilitate this exchangea reciprocal visit was organised for Tin Shui Wai Government Secondary School students to visit CityUHK campus on 5 December 2024. During the guided visit, students had a glimpse of the delicate chemistry research equipment and learned how CityUHK is contributing to the conservation of horseshoe crabs. They also toured the Indra and Harry Banga Gallery and gained insight into ceremonial arms and armour across cultures.

Students from Tin Shui Wai Government Secondary School visited labs and learned how CityUHK contributes to the conservation of horseshoe crabs.

As CityUHK continues to expand its outreach schemes, the collaboration with local secondary schools not only enriches students' educational experiences but also strengthens community connections, paving the way to nurture the next generations of scientists and innovators.
