More than 20 members of the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) community were named on the 2024 HKSAR Honours List for their significant contribution to Hong Kong and their dedicated public and community service.
Professor the Honourable Priscilla Leung Mei-fun, Professor of Practice at the CityUHK School of Law, was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star for her exemplary contribution to Hong Kong. Professor Leung was amongst the pioneers in the Hong Kong legal sector to conduct extensive research on the Mainland’s legal system. She has been devoted to nurturing legal talent in Hong Kong and fostering various sectors’ understanding of the Constitution, the Basic Law, and the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. She has also been dedicated to the work of the Legislative Council and other public services, especially the development of the West Kowloon region and public transportation and environmental hygiene issues in the Kowloon City District.
Three members of the CityUHK community were awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star:
- The Honourable Chan Yung, alumnus, Honorary Fellow and former Court Member, for his dedication and profound contribution to public and community service over the years. He was a Member of the North District Council and contributed with his rich experience in municipal matters, thereby winning full recognition of the residents. For many years, he has led the New Territories Association of Societies and cooperated closely with the Government to serve the community. Since 2022, he has served as a Member of the Legislative Council and proactively offers his views on different issues.
- Mr Daniel Cheng Chung-wai, alumnus, for his meritorious and dedicated service to the Government and the Hong Kong community. He retired as Permanent Secretary, Chief Executive’s Office, after 34 years of service with the Government. He has made remarkable contributions, particularly in the areas of coordination of policy development and implementation, as well as supervision of the operations of the Chief Executive’s Office. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated high integrity, a strong commitment to serve, and outstanding administration and leadership skills.
- Ms Peggy Wong Pik-kiu, alumna, for her remarkable community service in the Tai Po District. For over 20 years, she has participated actively in housing, traffic and transport, fire safety and crime prevention matters in the district. During the epidemic, through her extensive network in the community, she mobilised volunteer organisations and district bodies to distribute anti-epidemic supplies to residents and visit families in need, thereby gaining the respect of the local personalities.
Alumni Mr Mark Woo Wai-kwan received the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Medal for Distinguished Service in recognition of his outstanding performance and dedicated service in the Customs and Excise Department for over 26 years. Additionally, three CityUHK community members were awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star:
- The Honourable Kwok Wai-keung, alumnus, for his outstanding and significant contribution to the community and the labour sector over the years as a veteran unionist.
- Dr Warren Ma Kai-yum, Honorary President of the CityUHK Industrial and Business Leaders Circle, for his long and active participation in charity work and social affairs.
- Mr Tan Tick-yee, alumnus, for his long and dedicated service to the Government and the Hong Kong community for 37 years.
Alumni Mr Lee Chung-wah received the Hong Kong Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Receiving the Medal of Honour were current Court Member Ms Cordelia Chung, former Court Member Ms Rosanna Choi Yi-tak, and six alumni: Ir Dr Cary Chan Wing-hong, Dr Louis Chen Xiaofeng, Ir Dr Barry Lee Chi-hong, Mr Lo Hiu-fung, Dr Henry Shie Wai-hung and Mr Young Wing-fai.
Alumni Mr Clement Cheuk Sin-cheong, Mr Cheung Ting-pong, Dr Lam Ka-yee and Ms Yeung Hiu-lam received the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service. Alumni Mr Chan Chi-sing and Mr Lo Tin-wai received the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Government/Public Service.
In addition, CityUHK 30th Anniversary Steering Committee Member Mr Angad Banga, current Court Member Mr Stephen Chan Man and alumnus Mr Cheung Yee-wai were appointed Justice of the Peace.
