CityUHK strengthens its global partnerships and explores collaboration with a leading Japanese university

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is actively strengthening its ties with renowned academic institutions in neighbouring countries and regions to promote mutual collaboration in academics, research and innovation. A high-level delegation led by Professor Freddy Boey, CityUHK President, visited Muroran Institute of Technology (MuroranIT) in Hokkaido, Japan, in mid-October to explore potential collaboration in education and research, and enhance CityUHK’s connections and partnerships in Japan. Both universities are also interested in promoting PhD programme collaboration and bilateral exchange of students.

MuroranIT offers programmes in Science and Engineering, with a focus on civil engineering, electronic engineering, materials engineering, etc., and houses several research centres, which have close ties and collaboration with industry.

President Boey described the visit to Japan as fruitful and expressed hope for future collaboration with other prominent, forward-looking Japanese universities to offer more opportunities for CityUHK students and researchers to learn and exchange at renowned international universities.

The CityUHK delegation to Japan included Professor Jing Xingjian, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Ms Pheck Choo Ng, Director of the Office of the President and the Global Engagement Office; and Ms Helen Lam, Deputy Director of the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies.
