Machine Learning for Reliable and Efficient Power System Operation Considering Renewable and Load Uncertainty | This project aims to improve how power grids incorporate renewable energy sources using machine learning as a principled approach. In particular, the project will develop better forecasting tools using deep learning, use neural network schemes to speed up optimal grid set-point computation, and employ reinforcement learning to discover stronger controllers to better stabilize the grid. The solutions will be evaluated together with industry partners, using real-world data to verify their effectiveness. | HK$5,914,160 |
Prof Xiangyu ZHAO (PC, CityUHK) Prof Xiaohua JIA (CityUHK) Prof Yu YANG (CityUHK) Prof Irwin KING (CUHK) Prof Qing LI (PolyU) Prof Jianliang XU (HKBU) |
Trustworthy Large Language Models: A Multifaceted Strategy for Truthfulness, Fairness, and Privacy Preservation | This project aims to improve Large Language Models (LLMs), which are AI systems used to generate human-like text in applications like chatbots and search engines. The project focuses on making LLMs more trustworthy by addressing three key issues: 1) ensuring the information they provide is accurate and reliable, 2) reducing harmful biases and ensuring fairness, and 3) protecting user privacy. The team will develop new techniques and tools to make LLMs safer and more reliable for use in various industries like healthcare, finance, and e-commerce, ultimately improving online services and boosting trust in AI technology. | HK$7,670,285 |
The CRF aims to foster multi-investigator, multi-disciplinary projects to encourage more research groups to engage in creative, high-quality, cross-disciplinary / cross-institutional projects. CityUHK has secured over $60M in RGC funds for the 2024/25 round, marking a significant increase of over 34% compared to the previous round.
In 2024/25 CRF Exercise, the RGC received 402 preliminary proposals, shortlisted 100 full proposals, and selected 62 for interview. Ultimately, 42 proposals were supported by the RGC, with a total funding of $239.8 million (exclusive of on-costs).
Once again, our heartfelt congratulations to our professors and their team members for receiving this remarkable accomplishments!
