Celebrating the Evolution of CityUHK and Sham Shui Po in the Journey to Innovate the Future
In celebration of CityUHK’s 30th Anniversary and the longstanding connection City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has built with the Sham Shui Po community, CityUHK proudly hosted the "CityUHK@Sham Shui Po" exhibition at the Yeung Kin Man Academic Building on campus from 20 to 26 November 2024. The event successfully attracted nearly 13,000 guests visiting its various zones.
Under the theme “Innovating into the Future”, the exhibition demonstrated CityUHK's commitment to promoting innovation and progress in Sham Shui Po. It highlighted the unique connections between CityUHK and Sham Shui Po through featuring four engaging zones: Education, Community, Technology, and Arts and Culture, each designed to offer unique insights and interactive experiences.
In the Education Zone, visitors experienced a VR telescope that allowed them to revisit the rooftop classrooms of the past, immersing themselves in the learning environment of students in the 1960s and highlighting the spirit of community learning. A timeline wall displayed significant milestones of CityUHK from the past 30 years, while a classroom setting provided a perfect photo opportunity for visitors to capture memories of their own educational journeys.
The Community Zone showcased inspiring stories of local community members through photos and audio, illustrating CityUHK's deep commitment to social responsibility and its contributions to the neighborhood via innovative research and student community service programmes. Additionally, AI videos featuring community members projected their hopes for the future, fostering a dialogue about aspirations and collaborative growth.
In the Technology Zone, a massive illustration wall depicted the landscape of Sham Shui Po, illustrating how CityUHK's groundbreaking research has made significant contributions to both the local community and the world. This space emphasized the University's role in pushing the boundaries of innovation and technological advancement.
The Arts and Culture Zone featured knitted artworks sponsored by Laws Knitters, a leader in the local textile industry located in Sham Shui Po District with nearly half a century of expertise in knitting. These pieces blended traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, showcasing various architecture of Sham Shui Po, including Mei Ho House, Sham Shui Po Public Dispensary, North Kowloon Magistrates' Courts and Precious Blood Hospital (Caritas). Notably, Laws Knitters also created a special knitted art piece for the one on the Jockey Club One Health Tower at CityUHK. Additionally, the zone also showcased some galvanised iron work, a traditional craftsmanship of Sham Shui Po, and an innovative display installation showing various renowned materials from Sham Shui Po.
