Congratulations to Prof. Zhiyuan Zeng, a member of the SKLMP from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, for being awarded the 2023/2024 Young Collaborative Research Grant by the University Grants Committee. The grant is in recognition of his outstanding research project titled "Electrochemical Lithium Intercalation & Exfoliation for Mass Production of 2D Transition Metal Dichalcogenides and Their Application for Water Purification".

In Hong Kong, where natural lakes, rivers, and groundwater resources are lacking, the majority of freshwater needs to be imported. Prof. Zeng's research aims to address this issue by developing a cost-effective and reusable nanolaminate membrane for water purification, utilizing transition metal dichalcogenides. This innovative purification membrane can be employed in personal portable or indoor water purifiers, as well as industrial water purification plants, thereby expanding the options for wastewater treatment in Hong Kong. The research project is scheduled to span three years and has been granted over HKD 4.8 million in funding.

Prof. Zeng's research team is dedicated to providing sustainable solutions to Hong Kong's water shortage problem. We eagerly anticipate their future advancements and accomplishments.
