Alumni in Shanghai celebrate the 30th Anniversary of CityUHK

CityUHK management team and over 200 alumni from various cities in the mainland  join together to celebrate CityUHK’s 30 years of excellence at the dinner.

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), following reunions in Shenzhen, Beijing, and Singapore, CityUHK held another Alumni Reunion Dinner in Shanghai on 28 September.

Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK, along with the University management team, joined over 200 alumni from various cities in the mainland to celebrate CityUHK’s 30 years of excellence at the dinner.

In his speech, President Boey highlighted that CityUHK has shown resilience and excellence as one of the world’s top universities in its 30th year. He expressed his gratitude to the alumni for their long-term support and emphasised their crucial role in CityUHK’s development.

President Boey shared the latest developments of the University with the alumni, including the opening of CityUHK (Dongguan) on 2 September, marking a new milestone in promoting higher education cooperation in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. He added that the University, recognised as the Most International University by Times Higher Education in 2024, was committed to expanding its partnerships with esteemed universities worldwide to strengthen academic and research collaboration, enriching student development.

The dinner featured an array of captivating performances including the song “Childhood” by the ExCo members of the CityUHK Shanghai Alumni Chapter, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere. President Boey and Mr Nie Weiguo, Chairman of the Chapter performed “Shanghai by Night” against the backdrop of the city's vibrant night scenery, celebrating the jubilant gathering. Followed by the duet, President Boey dedicated the song “The Moon Represents My Heart” as a special gift to the alumni, encapsulating his gratitude for their keen support, and embodying the festive vibe after the Mid-Autumn Festival and its spirit of reunion. The singing captivated the hearts of the alumni, who were fully engaged and united by the symphony of passion and delightful melodies.

During the dinner, President Boey presented certificates of appreciation to the ExCo members of the CityUHK Shanghai Alumni Chapter and thanked them for actively connecting alumni in the mainland. He also extended a sincere invitation to all alumni to participate and reunite in the “CityUHK Alumni Homecoming” on 2 November to celebrate the significant 30th Anniversary together.

CityUHK representatives attending the dinner included Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President; Professor Lu Chun, Vice-President (Mainland Strategy); Professor Yue Chee Yoon, Dean of Graduate Studies; Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business; Professor Lu Jian, Dean of the College of Engineering; Professor Alfred Ho Tat-kei, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; Professor Wang Xin, Dean of the College of Science; Professor Espen Aarseth, Dean of the School of Creative Media; Professor Lin Feng, Dean of the School of Law; Ms Kathy Chan, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations); Professor Cheng Shuk-han, Associate Vice-President (Research); Ms Pheck Choo Ng, Director of the Office of the President; and Ms Grace Liang Guizhen, Director of the Alumni Relations Office.
