Around 900 new students kicked off their university life at a welcoming ceremony on 27 August at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK).

Together with the new students, members of the senior management team, college deans and some outstanding alumni enjoyed a series of wonderful performance and sharing sessions at the ceremony.

In his welcoming speech, Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President of CityUHK, expressed the university's commitment to nurturing talents for the future through inspirational, interactive, and innovative learning. He also encouraged students to remain open, curious, and engaged.

“There are abundant opportunities for your holistic development, preparing you not only for academic excellence but also for personal growth, lifelong passion, and community engagement,” he said.

Professor Henry Chung Shu-hung, Dean of Students, warmly welcomed the new students and introduced them to the wide range of student development services and activities provided by CityUHK. These encompass arts performances, sports activities, counselling, exchange programmes, internships, and career planning.

Three alumni and senior students shared their experiences, highlighting how CityUHK had contributed to their personal growth and career development. They emphasised the unique opportunities such as participating in choir and musical performances, engaging in service leadership training programme, and undertaking overseas exchange programmes.

The event included a performance by the fencing team and excerpts from the musical Legally Blonde performed by students.
