CityUHK DBA and EMBA graduates celebrate learning achievements
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is committed to nurturing a new generation of business leaders with global insights and innovative thinking. The College of Business at CityUHK held a joint graduation celebration dinner on 15 June, bringing together over 200 students, faculty, and alumni from four Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) degree programmes conducted in Chinese. They are all business leaders and senior executives from various industries.
Professor Freddy Boey, CityUHK President, celebrated the learning achievements with the graduates. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates and encouraged them to uphold the spirit of CityUHK – innovating into the future.
President Boey emphasised that CityUHK highly values its alumni and encourages them to continue to interact with and support the future development of their alma mater, working together to create a greater societal impact. He mentioned that the University is actively expanding its footprint in mainland China, and is planning to establish research institutes in Qingdao, Beijing and Chengdu to promote innovation, incubate deep tech start-ups, and facilitate industry academic collaboration.
To enhance the international reputation of the University, President Boey has signed memorandums of understanding and exchange agreements in the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, and many other places since being installed as president. This year, CityUHK was recognised as the Most International University in the World according to Times Higher Education (THE). The University was also ranked fourth in the latest THE Young University Rankings, marking its eighth consecutive year to be ranked among the top 10 best young universities in the world.
The CityUHK EMBA(Chinese) programme combines international and local elements and is committed to cultivating innovative Chinese business leaders and studying the most cutting-edge knowledge in global business. The EMBA+MPA Dual Degree Programme, jointly designed by the College of Business and the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University, is the first and only cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional, and cross-regional project in Asia. The programme is taught by professors from both schools, reflecting CityUHK’s commitment to integrating entrepreneurial spirit and public value, as well as collaboration between government and society. It aims to cultivate leaders who can integrate public and private sectors to serve national strategies, including the Belt and Road Initiative.
The DBA(Chinese) programme cultivates talent for the Greater China region, encouraging students to combine their rich personal practical experience with their professional knowledge to transform them into innovative solutions, helping businesses and industries solve problems, and leading businesses to stand out in the global business market with innovative thinking. The DBA programme co-organised by the College of Business and the School of Management at Fudan University is based on the existing DBA programme, and designs flexible training plans according to the requirements and social needs of the mainland business community, encouraging students to exchange experiences and interact with their mentors.
In his speech, Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business, encouraged the graduates to maintain an optimistic attitude to face challenges, and to actively give back to society, the city, the country and the world. He encouraged the graduates to continue to support the development of their alma mater. He believes the graduates have greatly benefited from the global classroom with overseas modules and will be able to apply what they have learned in important positions, further leveraging their strengths.
Mr Kong Weiting, a graduate of the CityUHK EMBA (Chinese) Programme and Chairman of Shenzhen Kemin Sensor Company Limited, spoke on behalf of the graduates. He said he encountered business development bottlenecks and came to CityUHK “seeking answers”. He thanked the professors, whose teaching had changed his marketing approach, leading his company to double its sales and financing.
Dr Wang Zhongwei, General Manager of Sunny Optical Intelligence, spoke on behalf of the CityUHK DBA graduates. He stated the CityUHK courses are extensive and that the tutors are strict. He and his classmates overcame difficulties, including the pandemic, while learning the importance of self-discipline and lifelong learning. He is confident that he can lead his company to greater heights.
The celebration dinner also included a lucky draw segment. Graduates, alumni, and faculty of the College of Business engaged in lively exchanges, creating a joyful atmosphere. Other guests at the dinner included Professor Robert Li Kwok-yiu, Associate Dean, Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies, Professor Hao Gang, Associate Dean (China Executive Programmes and Advancement), Professor Yin Zhiwen, Associate Dean of the School of Management at Fudan University, and Ms Yang Anan, Director of the Academic Affairs Office in the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University.
