Outbound Student Exchange

Health Matters

Medical Check-up & Vaccination

  • If your host university requires a pre-arrival medical check-up for admission, allow sufficient time to obtain a medical assessment report before you leave Hong Kong.

  • Consult a doctor to obtain any vaccinations or medications you might need. Ask for a medical certificate letter from your doctor if you need to prescribe or bring any medicine for your personal use.

More info about travel health can be found here.

Insurance

  • All exchange students are required to purchase travel and medical insurance coverage for the entire period of their exchange programme. You must also enrol in the mandatory insurance plan designated by your host university, if any. If no such plan is requested, you are still required to take out a travel and medical insurance policy from a licensed insurer.

  • Your insurance policy, inclusive of the mandatory insurance plan provided by your host university, should cover:

    1. Medical expenses (accidents and sickness)
    2. Hospitalization
    3. Personal accidents
    4. Emergency medical evacuation/repatriation
    5. Loss of luggage and personal belongings
    6. Flight delay
    7. Personal liability

  • Bring a copy of your insurance policy with you and leave the original with your family.
  • Retain all receipts and documents related to any insurance claim you might wish to make.

Safety & Emergency

Safety Advice

Incidents can occur anytime, anywhere. The Global Engagement Office (GEO) provides assistance and advice to help students prevent and prepare for a crisis. Knowing how to respond can help turn a difficult time into a positive learning experience.

Student safety is a priority for CityUHK. We closely monitor world and region-specific events and communicate regularly with partner institutions, education agencies, consular officials, immigration and law enforcement authorities, legal advisors, and student counsellors. Health and safety advice and travel warnings are issued to students whenever necessary.

GEO also organizes talks, briefings, and services to promote personal and travel safety and to enhance students' awareness of the importance of staying vigilant, carrying adequate insurance coverage, abiding by local laws and customs, and behaving responsibly.

CityUHK Critical Incident Management Team (CIMAT) for Students

GEO works closely with the University's Critical Incident Management Team (CIMAT) for Students when an incident involving a non-local student occurs. GEO has a Critical Incident Response Manual with case-specific standing operating procedures for different situations. Depending on the circumstances, the appropriate procedure will be activated in conjunction with the strategic protocol of the CIMAT.
