University of British Columbia - Vancouver Summer Program

It is a four-week academic program offered by various Faculties at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, for international undergraduate students. It aims to nurture academic pursuits, build friendships, and expand students’ perspectives of the world. The program provides the opportunity to take two academic courses while learning about Canadian practices and culture.

FAQ:

Q: Is there any English requirement?
A: No. IELTS/TOEFL is optional.

 

Q: Can I gain any credit upon completion of the programme?
A: Students will NOT receive UBC credit after completion of VSP.  UBC will issue a grade letter to the student instead.  If you would like to have a credit transfer, you should follow the steps below:

  1. Submit course details to your home department for pre-approval;
  2. Your home department will review the course details and decide whether the course can be approved;
  3. If approved, students can submit an application form with the grade letter to ARRO and pay the fee upon the completion of the programme. (Please visit the ARRO website for details: http://www6.cityu.edu.hk/arro/content.asp?cid=10)
  4. ARRO will confirm with the department and process your application. They will inform you of the result by email. 

 

Q: When and how much do students have to pay? 
A: Selected students will be invited to apply for admission to UBC by late February. The final admission decision rests with UBC.  Please follow the instructions on the UBC-VSP website for the payment dates. Upon successfully completing the programme, students must submit the required documents to the College Office for reimbursement of up to 60% of their actual expenses.

Airfare

Capped at 60% of your actual airfare at the cost of one return passage by the most economical means available (economy with excursion fares in most cases).

 You will reimburse up to 60% of the HK/Vancouver or Hometown/Vancouver airfare, whichever is less.]

Q: I have participated in exchange/ overseas internship/ CALIS before. Can I still join this programme? How about the funding? 
A: For GEAFS funding, priority will be given to Year 3 students who do not have overseas experience of at least 4 weeks before.  Students who cannot get the GEAFS funding may take the program at their own cost.

 

Q: How can I reimburse for my expenses if I was selected to receive the GEAFS funding? 
A: Upon successfully completing the programme, students must submit the required documents to the College Office for reimbursement. 

Documents Required:

  1. Grades letter from UBC (Must pass ALL the courses)
  2. Receipt of the payment of the Programme Fee
  3. Receipt of air ticket (economy class)
  4. boarding passes
  5. 10 HD photos with captions
  6. 1-minute student video with sub-titles (The photos, videos, written reviews and all programme-related information submitted may be used for administrative and promotional purposes)
  7. Student reflective essay in no less than 1000 words
