Eligibility
Minimum Entrance Requirements
Study Programme
- Full-time students of a government-funded bachelor's degree programme offered by CENG.
Year of Study
- Normative 4-year students: Must have declared major before application and have completed at least ONE year of study at CityU before undertaking exchange.
- Advanced Standing students: Must have completed at least ONE year of study at CityU before undertaking exchange.
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)
- At least 2.5
English Proficiency Requirements
Must have achieved one of the following minimum requirements:
- TOEFL: 79 (internet-based test) or 550 (paper-based test)
- IELTS: Overall band of 6.5
- Public Examinations:
- Grade C or above in one of the following:
- HKALE Use of English / English Literature
- GCEAL English Literature (or Grade B at GCSE English Language)
- Level 4 or above in HKDSE English Language
- Grade C or above in one of the following:
- Senate approved English courses: Grade C or above
- Any other equivalent English proficiency test result, including a minimum of 1650 SATI or International Baccalaureate Diploma with an overall minimum score of 28.
If the English language requirements prescribed by the host institution are higher than the above, students must follow such requirements for admission purpose.
Students MUST fulfil the English requirements before application. Only students applying for programmes conducted in Chinese in Mainland China and Taiwan can be exempted from the English requirements.
Remark
Some partner institutions require applicants to submit their TOEFL / IELTS score reports together with their applications for admission. Students are therefore strongly advised to take the TOEFL / IELTS test as early as possible.
How to apply?
- Identify up to 8 exchange institutions (4 at institutional level, 2 at college level and 2 at departmental level) from the list of partner institutions. Students are recommended to select at least 1 institutional level partner.
- Consult the Programme Leader or Departmental Exchange Coordinator about the suitability of the proposed exchange study and procedures relating to the application. The discussion should include the tentative course plan and credit transfer arrangements.
- Submit the student exchange application and proof of English proficiency through AIMS (under "Student Services") by the application deadline.
- Attend the selection interviews scheduled by the Global Engagement Office if shortlisted.
Remark
- The partner institutions reserve the right of final decision on the admission of exchange students.
- Nominations are made by departments based on students' preference, CGPA and English proficiency.

Admission to Host Institution
- Successful applicants will receive a conditional offer from CityU.
- Students are required to pay HK$1,000 as caution money when they accept the conditional offer.
- The caution money will be returned to students after they have completed the exchange and fulfilled all the requirements including document submission to CityU. Failure to meet the above mentioned requirements or withdrawal at anytime will lead to the forfeiture of the caution money.
- Upon students' acceptance of conditional offer, CityU will send their application to the host institution for consideration.
- The final result of application for is subject to the fulfillment of all admission requirements set by CityU and the host institution.

Please take note of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Privacy Notice if you are:
- Inbound exchange students from the European Union (EU) or United Kingdom (UK) partner universities; or
- Outbound exchange students joining exchange programmes in the EU or UK partner universities.
