Projects

Prof. Alfred T. Ho is working with a group of LIFT members, as well as researchers and practitioners in different countries, to explore how performance-oriented budget management can be linked to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advocated by the United Nations, the concept of "Good Governance", and the health and well-being of citizens.

Dr. Ilex LAM is leading a group of researchers and practitioners exploring what should be done to support the long-term development and financial sustainability of social enterprises. He is also working on projects that empower people with disabilities and special needs and help them gain long-term employability and good career prospects, especially in the high-tech sector.

Prof. Alfred T. Ho is also working with researchers from different fields, including computer science and electrical engineering, as well as secondary school students, and business and community leaders, to explore how new technologies, such as Virtual Realities, Augmented Realities, and the Metaverse, may transform public engagement and consumption, and how these new technological frontiers may create new financing mechanisms of public service delivery, transform public engagement and education, and challenge the traditional practices of public finance governance and taxation policies.

In addition, Prof. Alfred T. Ho is working with a number of industrial leaders and professional associations, such as the Textile Council of Hong Kong, Lawsgroup, the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, and the Hong Kong Coalition, to examine how Hong Kong should sustain its competitive advantages and economic leadership in the global economy. These projects also re-examine the roles of industrial policies, cross-sectoral partnership, and various financing mechanisms to incentivize R&D, human capital investment, and long-term industrial development.

Finally, Prof. Alfred T. Ho is working with Prof. Ting GONG, adjunct professor of the CityU Department of Public & International Affairs, and various international, national, community, and business stakeholders to measure the well-being and empowerment of women. The project also examines what policy, institutional, and cultural factors may influence the outcomes and what we may learn from the best practices and successful experiences of different jurisdictions and organizations.
