LIFT puruses research projects locally in Hong Kong and Asia. It also organises comparative studies and joint projects internationally with its affiliated members. These activities lead to working papers, conferences,seminars, books, and journal articles.
Its members also pursue research grants locally and internationally.

3D Sham Shui Po 360 Projects
3D Sham Shui Po 360 is a community engagement project that help local secondary school students gain more appreciation of their own community and imagine and visualize the future of Sham Shui Po District through history, media technologies, and policy studies.

Vision for Fashion 2047 - Fashion and Creative District in Sham Shui Po
A research team led by the Prof. Alfred Ho has launched a three-stage study to analyze how local community stakeholders, businesses, and public officials should best prepare for the arrival of the Design and Fashion Hub in Sham Shui Po and support the long-term development of fashion and textile industries in Hong Kong.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Public Administration Analytics Contest
To respond to the new challenges and changing policy needs of our digital economy and society, and to further improve students' data analysis skills and strengthen their knowledge and understanding of data application in public administration and policy analysis, the School of Government and the Center for Public Administration Research at Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, the Department of Public and International Affairs at City University of Hong Kong (the Department of Public Policy prior to August, 2022) , and the Center for Data Science at Macau University jointly organize the "The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Public Administration Analytics Contest".

Workshop on Social Determinants of Health
The Workshop on Social Determinants of Health is an interdisciplinary event held on 8-9 March 2023. Experts from all around the world, including World Health Organisation, Chinese Center for Health Education, and unversities from Australia and USA, gathered and discussed on lessons learned from various countries or cities' experiences in SDH initiatives, key issues related to the implementation of community informatics to support evidence-based decision-making and social determinants of health, and key strategies to build cross-sectoral collaborative partnership.
