Prof Sunny Wang visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Kazakh-British Technical University in Almaty, Kazakhstan

Prof WANG Xin Sunny, from the Department of Physics, City University of Hong Kong, recently visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) and Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, between October 7th and 11th, where he engaged in fruitful academic exchanges and delivered impactful talks on quantum computing.

At Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU), Prof Wang met with Prof Maratbek T. Gabdullin, the Rector of KBTU, and presented an engaging lecture titled "Exotic Quantum World – An Introduction to Quantum Computing" to a large group of enthusiastic undergraduate students. His talk, which explored the fascinating possibilities of quantum technologies, was met with significant acclaim. Prof Wang also introduced CityU’s Master of Science (MSc) and Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) programs in Physics, sparking interest among students eager to explore advanced studies.

In his visit to Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), Prof Wang delivered a plenary talk at the 5th International Forum "Nuclear Science and Technologies," organized by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, CERN, the Kazakh Physical Society, and the Institute of Nuclear Physics, along with other universities across Kazakhstan. Following his plenary talk, Prof Wang participated in a special sharing session led by Dean Nurzada Beissen of the Faculty of Physics and Technology at KazNU, joined by senior members, including Abishev Medeu, the Department Head of Theoretical and Nuclear Physics. During this session, Prof Wang shared insights on quantum computing and promoted CityU’s MSc and HKPFS programs to faculty members and students interested in advancing their academic careers.

Prof Wang was also warmly welcomed by delegates from the Kazakh Physical Society (KPS), led by Prof T.A. Kozhamkulov, an Academician of the National Academy of Science and the President of KPS, along with First Vice President T.S. Ramazanov, Vice President M.T. Gabdullin, and other KPS representatives. Representing the Physical Society of Hong Kong, Prof Wang signed a Memorandum of Understanding with KPS to formalize academic exchanges and collaborations, marking a milestone in strengthening scientific ties between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong.
