December 19, 2024

PhD students under the supervision of Prof. Kai Liu and Prof. Kate Flay were invited as distinguished guests to the prestigious 2024 Huawei Developer Final Competition.

During the event, Chuanyi Guo and Mahejabeen Hossain Nidhi were interviewed by Huawei regarding their participation in the 2023 Huawei Developer Competition – Asia Pacific, in which the team won the second runner-up award. They shared their journey in the competition, discussing the challenges they faced, the innovative improvements made to their AI-based livestock health management project, and the key takeaways from their experience. They highlighted the significance of teamwork and strategies for managing collaboration among team members from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise. The duo also offered practical advice for future participants of the Huawei Cloud Developer Competition, emphasizing the tangible benefits provided by Huawei Cloud.

At Huawei’s Higher Education Ecosystem Forum, Li Lyu and Zhaojin Guo presented their competition experiences and explored practical applications of cloud-edge integration to enhance animal welfare. Zhaojin Guo focused on four key aspects: the reasons for their participation, their preparation process, competition practices, and reflections after the event. He underscored the multifaceted benefits of the competition and shared valuable insights gained throughout their journey. Meanwhile, Li Lyu showcased two compelling case studies from their team projects. The first demonstrated how AI and Huawei Cloud were used to support the Hong Kong in wildlife management. The second illustrated how cloud-edge integration can transform livestock management practices. Both examples highlighted the practical value of Huawei Cloud in solving real-world challenges across diverse applications.

The team’s achievements were further celebrated during the 2024 Huawei Cloud Annual Gala, where Mahejabeen Hossain Nidhi was honored with the Women in Technology Developer Award. This prestigious accolade recognized her exceptional contributions as a female developer and her commitment to advancing Huawei Cloud technologies.

This remarkable journey not only reflects the team’s technical expertise and collaborative spirit but also showcases their ability to translate cutting-edge research into practical solutions. By leveraging advanced AI and computational technologies, they have made meaningful contributions toward improving animal health and welfare management. Their work serves as a powerful example of how innovation and teamwork can drive impactful change in the field of animal welfare.
